Education does not stop once the school day ends. After school programs play a vital role in child development. As difficult cuts are made in Springfield, I will continue to fight for early childhood programs and funding for extracurricular activities.
One of my biggest concerns was the Governor’s proposed $150 million cut to elementary and secondary education. I opposed these cuts and we were able to not only restore those funds, but increase funding. Protecting funding for our neighborhood public schools is of the utmost importance and will continue to be a top priority.
I cosponsored HB 2675 which will provide for comprehensive sexual education in our middle and high schools which will emphasize abstinence but be inclusive of all aspects of health. This proposal has been years in the making and passed both the House and the Senate and I look forward to seeing this bill put into law.
