I am proud to have worked on the passage of SB 26 which will expand Medicaid coverage in line with the Affordable Care Act. This bill will extend Medicaid eligibility to a larger group of low-income individuals and families. This will reduce the number of uninsured individuals by over half a million and the cost will be almost entirely offset by federal funds. This insurance expansion will reduce the number of families who would be forced into bankruptcy by a medical condition and expand access to preventative care. In addition, we were able to restore coverage of certain types of dental care for pregnant women, individuals with diabetes and others. I frequently hear from constituents on dental coverage within Medicaid and this is a positive step towards returning this important coverage.
